Algebra 3 (HW Quiz)

Homework Quiz over 7.1, 7.2, & 7.6 D1!

Edit (After grading):

I would like to explain the buildup to this quiz to put the grades into perspective. The following information can be found on the calendar, but I will repeat it here.

We started chapter 7 on 4/4 (a Tuesday). We did a lesson, then an off day, a lesson, then an off day. Then Monday of the next week we did a lesson, then an off day, (then an activity), then a lesson, then an off day. Then Monday of the following week you were given a review for the quiz that would be Wednesday.

It was explained that this would be a homework quiz, and that there would be 6 different kinds of problems spanning 7.1, 7.2, and 7.6. I stated exactly which types of problems would be on the quiz, worked out a review of those 6 types of problems, made my work of the review available online, and gave students two days (full class periods with no lessons during those days) to review the 6 types of problems that would be on the quiz and ask questions over them.

To summarize, students had 4 days of lessons and 6 days of dedicated review over the content. Students were told explicitly the 6 exact types of problems that would appear on the quiz, and were given a completed copy of the review (that I worked out) that showed every step to every problem. All of this was made clear verbally and on the website.

These are the grades that I got in each of my hours:

4th Hour:
A - 4
B - 3
C - 1
D - 0
F - 6

5th Hour:
A - 4
B - 4
C - 1
D - 3
F - 3

Results to tests are supposed to form a Bell Curve. Where most students make around a C, then few students make A's and F's. This is Not a bell curve. Students either did quite well, or very poorly. This tells me that the students who cared about the quiz were able to study and do well, and those who did not care about the quiz blew off the review days and never bothered to learn the material.

If you are reading this as a parent concerned with your child's grade, hopefully this information has shed some light as to how your child got the grade they did. And if you are reading this as a student of mine, surely you already know why you got the grade you did (based on your study habits and general outlook on education).
